help me, fellow knitters!

I don't know...seems like you are pretty normal. I abandoned my sewing machine for two sticks and yarn. But you're right, they don't compete for time. I say go ahead and sew and the knitting bug will come back. Since you're doing a knit along with your seester, you maybe want to set up a time when you will work on only that so she's not feeling put out.
lol! I do that all the time! I sew, crochet, knit, cross stitch and quilt. I only have all these hobbies because I get bored with one and move on to the other for a while. I've found what helps when I need to get motivated to finish or make something is to look around for an inspirational pattern or something to rev me up. Either that, or just wait for the need to come back. I guess I'm no good as a help to you, I just recently tossed a cross stitch project in the trash because I couldn't handle that there was too much of the same beige color in one spot. I held on to it for atleast 7 years hoping that I'd feel like finishing it! Hopefully you're not as bad as me. :-)
i usually look up other people's FOs on flickr to get me revved up. or i look up the pattern i am working on to see what other people have accomplished. seems to work for me! i know how it can be with a sewing machine. my bf gifted me one for a birthday and i just can't swing it. i'm not a sewer!
thanks for all the suggestions! i actually worked on a sleeve a little day before yesterday, so i think i'm getting back into it. hopefully soon i'll have some finished objects to show off.

You would think I'd be able to be of some inspiration to you, but unfortunately (though I've been knitting quite a lot recently) I'm somewhat in a knitting funk myself, due to being completely bored with making everloving golf club covers. *sigh*

Oh, and I agree with HobbyZu....next time you need some inspiration, troll the internet or the knitting mags for something you really, really want to make. Of course, then you'll wind up with like 20-something unfinished objects like the rest of us....so maybe entertaining yourself with the sewing machine isn't so bad!
